In the recent past I was very much troubled with respect to God's will. I'd be very confident and excited to do some things and all of a sudden somebody would say let's see if it is God's will. Then I was worried of not doing God's will because I did not think of it in the first place.
So I questioned myself as follows:
In order to make us do His will, God gave us His commands. That is pretty much the revealed will of God.
So I questioned myself as follows:
- Why didn't I think about God's will in the first place?
- Am I not interested to do the will of God?
- Do I actually know about God's will?
Definition of God's Will:
What God would like to see happen is the will of God.In order to make us do His will, God gave us His commands. That is pretty much the revealed will of God.
Why should we seek God's will?
Ephesians 5:8-10 says
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:17 says
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
David's Character - Man after God's own heart
As God testified about David as the man after God's own heart, understanding the character of David can give us an understanding into what God likes. Here are some characteristics of David:1 Sam 16:18 says
One of the young men answered, "Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, and the Lord is with him."Studying both actions and reactions of David can also give us a good understanding about what God likes.
Paul's Guidance to Philippians
We generally look for God's will when we don't know what to do. Here's how Paul guided the Philippians:Philippians 4:6-9 says
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Bearing the fruit of the spirit
Ephesians 5:9 says
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),This verse is actually embedded between verses 8 and 10 which implies that bearing the fruit of the Spirit is also an important part of doing God's will. So here's the fruit of the Spirit:
Galatians 5:22-23 says
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
When we have these qualities in our day to day life, it will be easy for us to find the will of God.
So let's always try to do the will of God in our lives.
